Kentucky love story - Lucy Bakewell Audubon

On Thursday, October 22, at 7 PM at the Presbyterian Church in the Fellowship Hall, the Friends of the Library will present Lucy Bakewell Audubon, a Kentucky Chautauqua character portrayed by Kelly O’Connell Brengelman. She will give a 45-minute performance which is FREE and open to the public.

Lucy Bakewell Audubon, wife of John James Audubon, was incredibly devoted to her husband. She made enormous sacrifices and suffered public scorn as she supported her husband’s talents. She was an advisor, teacher, and editor; she was also a saleswoman and business manager. Lucy became the main breadwinner as the couple spent time apart as John James Audubon dedicated his life to art and nature. Ultimately her intellect, loyalty and respectability helped John James Audubon publish Birds of America, often referred to as one of the greatest picture books ever produced.

Come hear Lucy Bakewell Audubon’s Kentucky Love Story. Free refreshments will be provided. For more information, please call the Library at 270-826-3712.
