Summer is upon us and the Bookmobile Librarian has released the summer bookmobile schedule.

The bookmobile is open to all Henderson County residents, and makes frequent stops at area nursing homes, rest homes, churches, schools, day care centers, community centers, and neighborhoods.

The bookmobile also makes stops at individual homes of those who are homebound or shut-in. If you, or someone you know, would like for the bookmobile to stop at your home or in your area, please call the library at 826-3712 or send an email.

New policy for teenagers -- you can check out movies!

Recently the library changed its policy regarding age limits for checking out videos and DVDs. Previously, patrons had to be at least 18 years of age to check out movies. Acknowledging that movies are Very Important to teenagers, and are sometimes required viewing by school teachers, the library has adopted the following policy:

"Persons aged 16-17 may be allowed to check out videos or DVDs if the parent or legal guardian gives consent and signs the Juvenile Video/DVD Borrower’s Registration and Consent Form. The consent form must be signed in person at the library. Consent forms may not be sent home with the teenager or mailed to the parent/legal guardian. The teenager is subject to the same checkout limits (4 videos and 4 DVDs at one time) and fines ($1.00 per day per video or DVD) as an adult."

Parents should be aware that the library’s video and DVD collection contains some materials that are deemed inappropriate for persons under age 18. By giving permission for their child to check out videos and DVDs, he or she will have access to materials that may be offensive or objectionable. Parents cannot hold the library responsible for the content of the videos or DVDs that their child checks out of the library. Parents should also understand that they are responsible for any fines or fees accrued on their child’s library card as the result of lost or overdue videos or DVDs while their child remains a minor.

If you have any questions or comments about this change in policy, please feel free to contact the library at 826-3712, or by email.
