When times get tough, it's time to get going ...

. . . to your Library!

The price of bread, milk, and eggs is up. Unemployment is up. And, so too, is public library use. Repeated studies have shown that, when dollars shrink and expenses grow, people tend to rely more on their public library for materials and services they might otherwise pay for.

Haven’t been to the library lately? Here are some ways you can save money at the library:

BORROW DON’T BUY
Don’t spend $25 on a book you’ll read once; borrow it. An audio book makes your commute more enjoyable – especially when borrowing it saves you $40. Saving money by doing it yourself? Save even more with ‘how to’ books and DVDs from the library.

GET ONLINE
High speed internet access can cost over $40 a month. In some areas of Henderson County it isn’t available at all. The library offers free Internet access and computers with Microsoft Office. You can even bring your own laptop and use the free wireless network.

KEEP UP WITH THE NEWS
The library subscribes to dozens of magazines and newspapers – from American Heritage to the Wall Street Journal – so you don’t have to.

HELPING EVERY CHILD SUCCEED
The library offers story times for preschoolers throughout the year. During every story time, while your children learn to love books and libraries, you will learn simple and fun ways to help your children acquire the critical skills they need to read and write in school.

With an extensive collection of books on everything from inventions to Indian tribes, the library supports the curriculum of the county’s public, private, and home schools.

DELIVERING SERVICES TO YOUR DOOR
The Bookmobile delivers books, movies, music and a smile to Henderson County residents of all ages. The Bookmobile stops at many area locations such as public and private schools, day care centers, nursing and rest homes, neighborhoods, community centers, apartment complexes, churches, and homes of the elderly, disabled and/or homebound.

DELIVERING SERVICES TO YOUR DESKTOP
WWW.HCPL.ORG delivers a variety of library services directly to your home, office or classroom. Browse the library's collection of books, movies, and music. Download audio books any time night or day. Keep up with your favorite books and authors – subscribe to a library newsletter delivered directly to your email address. Find the full text of articles you need for your research paper, business proposal, or personal interest in dozens of specialized online databases.

Don't miss out on the wealth of free services offered by your public library. We're open every day, ready to serve you!
