Diversify your news - read the alternative press

In this age of media conglomeration, some believe that the diversity of thought and opinion in the press is sorely lacking. Whatever your personal view, the library offers access to a wide array of independent and alternative newspapers and magazines from around the country.

These resources can be accessed in the Alt-PressWatch full-text database from the ProQuest company. Here you can search alternative viewpoints and perspectives that complement and challenge mainstream media coverage. Many of these publications are difficult to locate and acquire in their printed format. The independent and critical sources presented offer a unique perspective in the pursuit of freedom of the press.

Over 490,000 full-text articles are now available in Alt-Press Watch. Titles are added to the resource on a continual basis. Currently, there are 193 publications included in this resource and over 8,400 biographical or personal profiles are provided.

The library also offers access to well-known regional, national, and international newspapers in its Newspaper Source database. Check it out for different views on today's hot issues.

Both newspaper databases are free for anyone with a valid library card. Read more about Alt-PressWatch or begin searching now. Read more about Newspaper Source or begin searching now.
