A few days ago, several members of the library's staff were discussing the newest installment in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, Twelve Sharp. Although each of us loved the newest installment for different reasons, we all agreed that one of the best parts of any Stephanie Plum tale is Stephanie's 80-something grandmother, Grandma Mazur. This realization sent us on a search for other stories where septugenarian, octogenarian, and nonagenarian ladies show us that old age does not arrive on a certain birthday, but whenever you allow it to arrive. The women in this month's feature display are firmly holding the title "Little Old Lady" at bay to the amusement and delight of all the characters around them.
For those fellow fans of Grandma Mazur, a reader might want to try these books from our display. The scene stealing Aunties and Grannies from these series add a special something to each page they grace.
Best In Show by Laurien Berensen
A Case of Bad Taste by Lori Copeland
Readers who would rather see their golden girls in a starring role rather than just supporting a younger main character should consider a few of these titles.
Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann B. Ross
Little Altars Everywhere by Rebecca Wells
We would not be doing Miss Marple and Jessica Fletcher justice if we did not mention the many senior sleuths spending their time solving crimes and catching crooks. Mystery fans should consider trying a few of these.
A Clue for the Puzzle Lady by Parnell Hall
Biggie and the Poisoned Politician by Nancy Bell
All of these titles and more will be found on the kiosk next to the new books all month long. So hurry down and take advantage of our Blue Hair Special before these spry ladies are gone!
