Beginning in September, the Library will be offering free tai chi classes to the public. What is tai chi? It is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise. The health benefits of tai chi are numerous and include
- Improved posture
- Flexibility
- Balance
- Lower body strength
- Coordination
- Physical endurance
- Breath control
- Stress management
Because of its gentle health enhancing properties, tai chi can be practiced throughout one's life. Although tai chi is generally safe, consider talking with your doctor before starting a new program. This is particularly true if you have any problems with your joints, spine or heart.
The instructor for the classes is Diana Hopgood, a certified strength and conditioning specialist. (See article in The Gleaner.)
The classes will be held at the library on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm and Saturdays at 10:00 am during the months of September and October. Pre-registration is NOT required. Come as you are!
