Before you place an item on hold--Read this!

We have many patrons using our website to reserve library items from the convenience and comfort of home. We are happy that we are able to offer this service to our patrons and that so many are taking advantage of this. To be sure that we are providing the best service to our patrons, both online and at the Circulation Desk, we wanted to take a moment to clarify for our online users one point of this service.

Our website allows patrons to reserve items that are checked in and on the library shelf. When a hold is placed from home for an item that is checked in and on the library shelf, the item will remain on the shelf until a Hold Alert report is printed at the Circulation Desk. This report does not print automatically when a patron places an item on hold from home. The staff prints this report several times a day, but there still may be a significant delay between the time a patron requests an item from home and the time that the item is pulled from the shelf and is ready at the Circulation Desk. Items placed on hold late in the day may not be at the Circulation Desk until the next morning.

We apologize for the misunderstandings on this point that patrons have had in the past. Anytime a patron would like an item to be reserved for him or her at the desk and does not have much time to spare, the staff also takes hold requests over the telephone any time during regular business hours.
